Eric Brakey Already Has 31 Maine Legislators Lined Up to Endorse His Congressional Run

Former state senator Eric Brakey came up short in his run for U.S. Senate in Maine last year, coming in second place to independent incumbent Angus King, but he is not giving up on his quest to lead for the cause of liberty on a national level.

Brakey announced on social media today that 31 Maine legislators, including 26 in the 2nd Congressional district that Brakey intends to represent, will be endorsing him in his upcoming run for the seat.

“I am humbled to have the support of so many friends and former colleagues in the Maine Legislature. These men and women know the issues facing their constituents as well as anyone, and to know they are willing to place their trust in me is a true honor,” Brakey said.

Before the official announcement of his candidacy, Brakey is already making a strong case that he will be the favorite to win the Republican nomination for the seat, which should be up for grabs in next year’s election. The incumbent is Jared Golden, a freshman Democrat who defeated Republican Bruce Poliquin by a little over a percentage point in 2018.

“I will continue to meet to my neighbors in the Second District, listen to their issues and raise the necessary funds so I can make a final decision about the race from an informed position of strength,” Brakey added.

A series of quotes from Brakey’s colleagues show how he has earned the respect of his peers during his four years in the Maine state senate where he led on issues like Constitutional Carry, privacy rights, asset forfeiture reform, and medical marijuana.

“Senator Eric Brakey cares about Maine people. That’s why Brakey lead the charge to reform welfare and restore our healthcare freedoms. I’m proud to endorse Eric Brakey for Congress because we need him standing up for Maine in Washington,” said Rep. Fran Head, a Republican from Bethel.

“In the eight years I’ve known Eric Brakey, no one in our state has fought harder for Liberty. It doesn’t matter if you are a Republican, Democrat or Independent: Liberty is for everyone. That’s why I am endorsing Eric Brakey for Congress!” – said Rep. Billy Bob Faulkingham, a Republican from Winter Harbor.

“Senator Eric Brakey will work with anyone to do right and no one to do wrong. Brakey is a man of principled adherence to our Constitution, ready to defend the freedoms and paychecks of Maine people. I wholeheartedly endorse his campaign for Congress,” added Rep. David Haggan, a Republican from Hampden.

Brakey is expected to announce his campaign for U.S. Congress officially on September 17.
