Gun Sales are Booming in Swing States

It’s no secret that gun sales have been on the rise over the last few months across the nation.

Seven swing states, in particular, have recently witnessed an uptick in sales.

Fox News reported that the Cook Political Report categorized  “Arizona, Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin as toss-ups” in the election on November 3, 2020. The report also labeled New Hampshire and North Carolina as swing states.

AWR Hawkins of Breitbart News pointed out that a nearly 78 percent surge in gun sales took place in those states.

Hawkins offered some more context to this development:

This news is on top of National Shooting Sports Foundation’s findings ammunition sales surged 139 percent nationally during the first six months of 2020. And the surge in swing state gun sales comes as 2020 witnesses eight consecutive months of record background checks for gun sales.

There has been some speculation that the increase in gun sales across the country could be the sign of a hidden Trump vote, which could bode well for the president’s electoral prospects. After all, Trump, when compared to his Democrat rival Joe Biden, is perceived as the more pro-gun candidate.

Fox News reached out to Ken Mahoney, the political and financial analyst and CEO of Mahoney Asset Management, who did research on some of the more highly contested races in swing states during the 2016 election cycle. He stated, “These states had a margin of victory of less than 1% in 2016, so each campaign is sure to increase their focus on these areas over the next 41 days.”

Mahoney spoke about the rise in gun sales: “This issue is important for many Americans, and this is shown in the recent spike in gun sales as people fear the sale of firearms will be banned if Biden were to win.”

The Trump campaign should unapologetically run on the issue of the Second Amendment. It’s a clear winner and is one way that Trump can activate hardcore conservative support across the country and also bring first-time gun owners into the GOP fold.
