Thomas Jefferson Statue to be Removed from New York City Council

City officials in New York City are moving forward with removing a statue of Thomas Jefferson from the chambers of the New York City council. Earlier this week, nine members of the Public Design Commission unanimously voted to remove the statue from the city council.

Various lawmakers gave testimonies declaring that the statue is “offensive.” Steve Watson of Summit News noted Democratic Assemblyman Charles Barron declared that Jefferson was a “slaveholding pedophile.”

Barron also said that “I think it should be put in storage somewhere, destroyed or whatever.”

Barron continued his anti-Jefferson screed by asking, “How the hell can people see as a hero someone who had hundreds of enslaved Africans, someone who was a racist and who said we were inferior and someone who was a slaveholding pedophile?”

He further proclaimed that “For [Jefferson] to be canonized in a statue is incredible — incredibly racist.”

According to a local ABC affiliate, the Jefferson statue is  “expected to go on ‘long term loan’ to the New-York Historical Society by the end of the year, where it would be included in educational exhibits with the proper historical context that likely will include discussion of Jefferson’s slave ownership.”

New York City mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa was firmly opposed to the move. He inquired, “Do we suddenly wipe out the images, the markings, the names of all those great patriots because they were slaveholders and slave holding was quite common at that time?”

Republican city council member Joe Borelli attacked New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio for carrying out a “progressive war on history.”

“The de Blasio administration will continue the progressive war on history as he, himself, fades away into a portrait on a City Hall wall,” Borelli said in correspondence with The New York Post.

Donald Trump was right all along. The removal of the Confederate monuments was just the appetizer. The main course now consists of taking down monuments of the Founding generation.

In this era of woke iconoclasm, no pre-Civil Rights Revolution historical figure is safe from the historical purges of the radical Left. Red states should do everything possible to protect their monuments from radical activists and politicians who want to re-write history. The Left’s endgame is to wipe out American history and create a new pantheon of “heroes” that form a part of their new civic religion of globalism.

This radical project must be stopped in its tracks.
