“Ultimately, if someone’s going to accuse you of something that’s going to bring down a presidency, I think we deserve to know who that person is,” Paul declared in front of reports in Kentucky on Tuesday.
“I think there are reasons to have whistleblower statutes, and have anonymity. But if you’re accusing somebody of something with the ramifications of impeachment, I think really the person ought to come forward,” he continued.
He stood strong in a tweet on Tuesday, saying that he wants to meet the whistleblower.
“Why aren’t we entitled to interview & learn everything about the Whistleblower, and also the person who gave all of the false information to him,” he tweeted.
Trump’s statements generated great backlash from congressional Democrats, who claim that he’s trying to intimidate the whistleblower and keep other individuals from coming forward.
During a press conference Wednesday, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff pointed out that whistleblowers have the right to remain anonymous.
Other Republicans have begun to raise questions about the validity behind the person’s status as a whistleblower. Texas Senator John Cornyn raised doubts about the individual’s status as a “leaker”, while South Carolina Senator believes that the complaint was based on “hearsay.”
The inspector general disagreed with the aforementioned Senators’ claims, revealing on Monday that the whistleblower had both firsthand information and information from other individuals about the matter.
Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley, the chairman of the Senate Whistleblower Protection Caucus, came to the individual’s defense on Tuesday, declaring that they deserve to be “heard out and protected.”
“This person appears to have followed the whistleblower protection laws and ought to be heard out and protected. We should always work to respect whistleblowers’ requests for confidentiality,” Grassley stated.
Democrats are still in denial about the results of the 2016 election, so they’ll try to find whatever way possible to get rid of Trump.
This Ukraine drama is just the latest in their many futile attempts to remove Trump from office.
