Americans are Overwhelmingly Against Oregon’s New Law to Destroy Education Standards

The state of Oregon’s recent decision to get rid of requirements for students to be proficient in reading, writing, and math before they can graduate from high school has sparked massive controversy. This is the latest in woke lunacy that has infected public schools nationwide.

The good news is that Rasmussen Reports discovered through its polling that Americans overwhelmingly oppose such measures to get rid of basic educational standards. In a recent Rasmussen Reports survey, 81% of American adults would oppose a law in their respective states that no longer requires high school students to demonstrate proficiency in mathematics, reading, and writing in order to graduate.

A measly 12% support such legislation in their state.

Earlier in August, Oregon Governor Kate Brown signed into law a bill that gets rid of the requirement that high school students showcase proficiency in math, reading, or writing before they can graduate. One of the governor’s spokespeople declared that scrapping proficiency requirements will be beneficial to Oregon’s “Black, Latino, Latina, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Tribal, and students of color.”

However, most Americans don’t believe Oregon’s lax high school graduation standards should be a model for the rest of the nation to follow. 75% of respondents to Rasmussen’s poll believe that getting rid of proficiency requirements will be detrimental for Oregon’s “Black, Latino, Latina, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Tribal, and students of color.” 7% believe that scrapping the requirements will benefit those students, while an additional 9% don’t think it will have any difference.

80% of Americans are of the view that students who receive a high school diploma without proficiency in reading, writing and mathematics will have trouble holding their own in the workplace or in college.

Strong majorities oppose the Oregon law across all racial categories. 84% of whites, 75% of blacks, and 77% of other non-white minorities oppose any law in their state that gets rid of requirements for students to not be proficient in reading, writing, and mathematics in order to graduate.

In a similar vein, 76% of whites, 77% of blacks, and 72% of other minorities said that scrapping proficiency requirements would be detrimental for Oregon’s “Black, Latino, Latina, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Tribal, and students of color.”

Americans are sensible people. Education is supposed to be about imparting useful knowledge to individuals so they’re prepared to have skills once they enter the workforce. However, social engineers want to destroy any functional part of the current education system so that it can meet diversity quotas. Oregon’s recent passage of this law should serve as a wake-up call for conservatives who continue to rely on public schooling.

These institutions are corrupt to the core and merit no support from any self-respecting person on the Right. It makes more sense to build communal schools of like-minded people, homeschool children, or send kids to private schools that aren’t infected by the woke mind virus.
