While Republican leaders – including President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell – aggressively capitulate to the Left on gun control, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) is doubling down on his unconditional support for the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution.
Massie took to Twitter to defend 100-round magazines as being necessary for personal self-defense:

If 6 brave, trained, and alert police officers with professionally maintained weapons fired 58 rounds to subdue the Dayton shooter,
I’d say my wife deserves at least that many chances to protect herself and my kids when I’m not home.

Massie is not without answers to prevent future gun violence throughout the United States. He wants to end gun-free zones nationally to empower Americans and potentially limit the murderous impact of mass shooters.
“Gun-free zones are ineffective and make our schools less safe. 98 percent of mass public shootings since 1950 have occurred in places where citizens are banned from having guns,” Massie said in a press release when he announced the introduction of the bill in June.
“Banks, churches, sports stadiums, and many of my colleagues in Congress are protected with firearms. Yet children inside the classroom are too frequently left vulnerable,” he added.
Gun researcher John Lott backs up Massie’s proposal with ample evidence showing that more guns means less crime.
“Seventeen million Americans have concealed handgun permits. This is 8.5 percent of the adult population when one excludes permit-unfriendly California and New York. Nobody knows whether the person next to them might have a gun. Carrying in a school isn’t really any different from carrying in a grocery store, a movie theater, or a restaurant,” Lott wrote in a joint op/ed with Massie.
“No student has ever taken a teacher’s gun. In fact, the only accidental discharge occurred outside of school hours and resulted in minor injuries for the teacher in possession of the handgun,” Lott added.
The legislation was originally introduced by former Texas Congressman and libertarian legend Ron Paul (R-TX) in 2007. Massie has kept the idea alive since the revolutionary icon retired from the House of Representatives in 2012.
Massie defended his legislative proposal during an appearance on Bloomberg Politics earlier this year.
While the Republican Party goes in the direction of socialism and totalitarianism, there is at least one lawmaker with the courage to stand against the current of tyranny. Massie remains a shining beacon for liberty in the U.S. House.
