California is Now the First State to Mandate Ethnic Studies in Order for Students to Graduate High School

On October 8, 2021, California became the first state in the country to make ethic studies classes a prerequisite before graduating high school.

As reported by Howard Blume and Melissa Gomez at the Los Angeles Times, this move came after five years of intense debate. This curriculum is designed to allegedly “help

students understand the past and present struggles and contributions of Black, Asian, Latino, Native/Indigenous Americans and other groups that have experienced racism and marginalization in America.”

California Governor Gavin Newsom had previously vetoed a similar measure in 2020.

“Ethnic studies courses enable students to learn their own stories — and those of their classmates,” Newsom declared in a signing statement. The Governor’s Office published a news release that asserted ethnic studies will “help expand educational opportunities in schools, teach students about the diverse communities that comprise California and boost academic engagement and attainment for students.”

Democratic Assemblyman Jose Medina, the bill’s author, praised the signing of this bill. Medina believes the new requirement was “long overdue” and “one step in the long struggle for equal education for all students.”

Under this new law, students in the high school graduating class of 2030 must pass at least one semester of ethnic studies courses. By the fall of 2025, all public high schools are expected to offer an ethnic studies class.

The last year has seen the US embrace a culturally radical path. California’s new law is just another sign of how radical some blue states are becoming. While many people will laugh off the inclusion of ethnic studies into California’s high school courses as a move that will only be contained to a hard left state, it will likely not be so isolated.

After all, California has been a trend-setter when it comes to spreading leftist memes in recent decades. What starts there Is invariably spread to other states. Ethnic studies are really just another form of anti-white course material designed to demonize Americans of European ancestry, while championing other non-European groups.

California’s latest move just gives right-wingers another reason to get out of the public school system and start considering other alternatives in homeschooling and private schooling. A serious right-wing movement would crack down against this kind of subject material and consider defunding public education institutions that peddle radical leftist propaganda.
