California Public School Enrollment Drops by 110,000 Students

Public schools are indoctrination centers writ large and should be treated as such. Liberty conservatives have grasped this for decades.

While most of the American population treats public schools as a natural part of the US’s socio-political order, the Wuhan virus pandemic offered a silver lining to anti-government schooling advocates. With many school districts going online to conduct classes, parents now had a chance to look over their children’s’ shoulders to see what they’re being taught at school. Boy, were these parents in for a shock.

Many parents were shocked by the level of indoctrination their children were receiving. As a response, a significant portion have decided to pull their children out of public schools and have placed them in private schools or have delved into homeschooling.

For the first time in decades, public school enrollment has been dropping. In the case of California, it has apparently experienced a noticeable decline in public school enrollment.

In a report by The Los Angeles Times, enrollment at government schools plummeted for the fifth consecutive year. This represented a decline of over 110,000 students. Factors ranging from the way school districts responded to the Wuhan virus pandemic to a declining population of school-age children explain this drop in the public school population.

In the fall of 2021, California public school enrollment was at 5,892,240 which represented a 1.8% reduction, per state data released on April 11, 2022.  These figures are the first time since 2000 that California’s K-12 population has fallen below 6 million. Large urban school districts made up one-third of this public education enrollment drop.

Public school enrollment in the Golden State has been declining since 2014-2015, although state education leaders claim that the Wuhan virus pandemic is the primary culprit behind this exodus from the California government schooling system over the past two years.

Most notably, in the 2020-2021 school year alone, California witnessed its largest drop in public school enrollment in 20 years, with 160,000 students exiting the system. In March 2020, the California state government and local governments forced the closure of public schools and went to online learning for nearly a year. Several experts argue that several student populations entering private schools, the rise of homeschooling, and people moving out of California for better job prospects and a more affordable cost of living, have contributed to this decline in government schooling enrollment. Regardless of what is the primary explanatory variable behind the decline of public school attendance in the US, this is an unqualified good. The fact is that government schooling is an indoctrination conveyor belt that churns out automatons that are loyal to the managerial state and do not question conventional wisdom. Liberty conservatives should not only praise this development but also vigorously promote non-governmental forms of schooling as alternatives to the present education model.

If we want to defeat the Left, once and for all, we must break the back of the government schooling industrial complex.
