Enrollment in New Jersey Government Schools Falls during 2020-2021 School Year by 41,000

Despite the massive socio-economic damage that governments’ responses to the Wuhan virus has caused, there are various silver linings that we can find in the past two years of pandemic insanity.

For example, there has been declining enrollment in government schooling in many states. For example, in New Jersey there were 41,000 fewer K to 12th grade students enrolled in the 2020-2021 school year compared to 2019-2020, per data from the New Jersey Department of Education.

According to a News 12 Staff report, Toms River school district experienced the biggest decline in school enrollment, with it dropping by 600 students. In a similar vein, Montclair came in second place with a drop in 459 students.

These declines in government school enrollment are quite steep. Populist journalist Ryan Girdusky argued in his National Populist Newsletter that “This is an especially startling number given that many schools have lifted most COVID restrictions, which may signify that people are leaving for other reasons.”

Indeed, the Wuhan virus response caused dislocations across the board. However, there may be some deeper factors at play in explaining this decline in government school enrollment in New Jersey and other states. With online learning, parents could look over their children’s shoulder and find out about the leftist insanity that’s being pounded into their heads.

Politics is all about muddling through. Sure, liberty conservatives would prefer that school choice, public school defunding, and government school abolition bills be passed in a straightforward legislative manner. However, life isn’t so linear. It often requires massive disruptions like the Wuhan virus to get people to realize how flawed our current system is.

Just like how our opposition never lets a crisis go to waste, we should take advantage of the current crisis to put forward our policy ideas. Those who bother to show up in the political arena and adapt their strategies accordingly are the ones who win.
