Homeowner Shoots Man in Attempted Home Invasion

A man from Gardnerville, Nevada died from gunshot wounds during an attempted home invasion in Douglas County on Saturday, March 21, 2020.

Law enforcement responded to a call from the 1400 block of Bumblebee Dr. around 9:30 p.m. last Saturday. When police arrived at the crime scene, they discovered 36-year-old Josuha McCarthy on the ground dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

Undersheriff Ron Elges claims the homeowner and McCarthy were involved in a scuffle before the home invasion occurred. Police reported that the homeowner did not know McCarthy.

Witnesses recounted an initial physical confrontation between McCarthy and another citizen at a different residence before the attempted home invasion and lethal shooting took place. Witnesses also claimed that McCarthy was heavily drinking before both incidents.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office believes this was an isolated incident and there is no widespread threat to the surrounding community.

Many similar cases of defensive gun use take place across the country on a daily basis.

These illustrate the reason why the right to self-defense is so important.
