House Freedom Caucus Member Lauren Boebert Introduces Bill to Promote Energy Independence

In the middle of an energy crunch, the Biden administration is pathetically looking for ways to contain an energy crisis that its interventionist policies created in the first place.

One way the Biden administration has scrambled to fix this self-inflicted energy wound is by groveling before Iran and Venezuela — two authoritarian petrostates — to try to get them to send more oil to the US.

So far, little has materialized when dealing with both countries.

Instead of trying to beg countries to send oil to the US, several elected officials like Lauren Boebert want to harness the power of America’s vast amount of resources and become less dependent on countries that are on bad terms with the US or are in nasty conflict zones.

Boebert recently introduced H.R. 7012, which would be a solid first step in making the US more energy independent. She tweeted on March 11, 2022, “My bill, H.R. 7012, restarts the Keystone Pipeline, allows responsible drilling in ANWR, expedites LNG exports, restarts O&G leasing, provides ammo to Ukraine, and actually bans oil and gas imports from Russia, Iran, and Venezuela.”

Ultimately, the US’s energy problems will be solved through the deregulation of its energy sector. A country that’s so resource rich and has so many premier energy exploration companies should not have to be begging other foreign nations for energy needs.

While the US will likely never become fully energy self-sufficient, it can still take concrete steps towards reducing its energy dependence abroad. It does not have to embrace the green mania, which is largely government promoted and inherently inefficient, nor does it need to get into compromising trade deals.

Many of the US’s economic problems stem from the fact that it is an overly regulated economy. In sum, the US needs to get its house in order and start going on a regulatory diet.
