Joe Kent Calls for a Restrained Approach to Ending the Russo-Ukrainian Conflict

With nearly two months of fighting in the Russo-Ukrainian War, it’s becoming abundantly clear that the Western ruling class is ready to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian and sanction Russia to the last European with five Euros in his pocket.

Even scarier is the level of policy unity this conflict has generated in DC. With few exceptions, chiefly made up of a small populist coalition in the US House, DC has taken a uniparty stance with regards to Russia. The ruling class is fully committed to fighting a proxy war against Russia.

Very few candidates during the 2022 midterms are calling for a more level-headed response towards Russia.

Joe Kent, a former Green Beret who is running for Washington State’s 3rd congressional district against Jaime Herrera Beutler, offers a breath of fresh air on the foreign policy front. He is currently calling for a restrained approach with Russia.

In a tweet he posted on April 17, Kent declared “Our national security establishment is using Ukraine to get us into a war w/ Russia.

Ukraine can only last b/c of US support b/c of US support Zelensky hasn’t had to realistically negotiate a cease fire. Instead we escalate blindly, getting more civilians killed & risking WW3.”

Kent added, “We should be pressuring both sides to make a deal to stop arming Ukraine & threatening sanctions (not immediately trying to kill the Ruble) to achieve this outcome.

The emotional cries for us to “do more” are a scam, they will only cause more death & move us closer to intervention.”

It’s sad to see few Republicans take on the pro-restraint mantle in these trying times. Kent’s non-interventionist gestures are a far more productive use of his time than trying to disavow America First nationalists like Nick Fuentes.

The congressional candidate for Washington’s 3rd district disavowed Fuentes back in March, when one of Kent’s Republican rivals in Heidi St. John urged him to throw Fuentes under the bus. Instead of ignoring St. John, Kent had a Twitter meltdown.

This was a categorical waste of time and a morale downer for many America First nationalists who are fans of Fuentes who would have also supported Kent.

Nevertheless, Kent should be given credit when he gets things right. The Russo-Ukrainian war needs to be brought to an end and the US can play a constructive role by recognizing Russia’s security concerns while also preserving Ukraine’s territorial integrity in ethnically Ukrainian areas.

Several things are indisputable: The US should not send troops, continue sanctioning or fund a proxy war against Russia.

Getting into a conflict with a nuclear power is the height of insanity.
