For too long, American conservatives have supported or at least tacitly accepted the existence of vast intelligence agencies in the United States. Since the election of Donald Trump in 2016, a substantial portion of the Right has been proverbially “red-pilled” on how corrupt institutions like the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) tried to pull a coup against Trump through the Russiagate drama during his presidency.
In addition, questions were raised about intelligence agencies’ role in potentially infiltrating the January 6 protests and making them turn violent. There are lots of questions in the air about that incident and the broader the intelligence community plays in disrupting American lives.
Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has continued raising questions about intelligence questions. In a tweet she posted on March 26, 2022, she declared, “It’s time to end the U.S. Intelligence operations against America.”
It’s time to end the U.S. Intelligence operations against America.

The Republican establishment is no fan of Greene, but her instincts are very much in line with the liberty conservatives in Middle America who have grown hostile towards the managerial state and DC altogether. The bureaucracies do not uphold the interests of Middle America. In fact, they are openly hostile towards Middle Americans and labor assiduously to dispossess them.
Conservatives must recognize that we’re no longer living in 1950s America when the culture was on point and public institutions can be trusted. Not only must they share Greene’s skepticism towards the intelligence community, but they should start proposing budge for cuts, if not full-blown abolition of, these agencies.
It’s the only way to guarantee that America has a government operating on constitutional norms and also that our civil liberties stay intact.
