Matt Gaetz Praises Ron DeSantis for Calling Special Session to Address Constitutional Carry

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ gutsy decision to call a special session of the Florida State Legislature to address the issue of Constitutional Carry has not gone unnoticed. Florida congressman Matt Gaetz praised the Florida governor for his bold leadership.

On March 29, 2022, Gaetz tweeted, “Thank you @GovRonDeSantis for calling a special session in the FL Legislature to pass Constitutional Carry.

I encourage Florida’s state lawmakers to pass @AnthonySabatini’s Constitutional Carry bill immediately!

The only permit a gun owner should need is the Second Amendment.”

Constitutional Carry is the simple concept that a lawful individual who is already able to possess a handgun can carry said handgun, openly or concealed, without having to beg the government for permission. It’s essentially a restoration of the right to bear arms.

Unfortunately, Florida has lagged behind on this issue like many other red states in America. Given its Republican dominance in the State Senate (24-16) and State House (78-42), Florida has no reason to be falling behind on the issue of Constitutional Carry.

Thankfully, there are state representatives like Anthony Sabatini and no-compromise organizations like Florida Gun Rights and Gun Owners of America’s Florida chapter who have done great work in pushing the issue in the Sunshine state.

Gaetz himself is a strong pro-Second Amendment elected official who has challenged the ATF on previous occasions for its moves to over-regulate normal firearms accessories. So he knows a thing or two about who is a strong pro-gun rights champion and who is a total poser.

Hopefully, Gaetz uses his platform to pressure DeSantis and other Republicans in the Florida state legislature to pass Constitutional Carry.
