Rand Paul Says There’s a Growing Constitutional Movement in Congress in Favor of Restoring War Declaration Powers

In the past century, the Executive Branch of the federal government has accumulated significant power. So much so that in matters of foreign policy, Congress’s role in declaring war has largely been minimized.

The last time that an official war declaration was made in the US Congress was during the World War II era

Since then, the Executive Branch has launched military campaigns with little congressional consultation. However, there is growing resistance to the way Congress has ceded its traditional powers to the Executive.

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul has been leading the charge in this respect.

In a tweet that American Moment posted on April 6, a snippet from Paul’s speech from the Up From Chaos conference — a conference that American Moment and The American Conservative hosted — was posted:

‘I think there is a growing movement within Congress…that truly does believe in the constitutional role in declaring war, making them think twice about engagement.’

Rand Paul is one of the few Senators who has reasonable foreign policy views.

The Republican Party has largely dropped the ball on the Russo-Ukrainian conflict by being Democratic lite in their advocacy for increasing military aid to Ukraine. This is all part of the Deep State’s efforts to use Ukraine as a proxy that will fight Russia to the last Ukrainian.

Paul rejects these plots. One of the bigger tasks for liberty conservatives is to build a coalition of legislators who reject all forms of intervention — boots on the ground, covert operations, sanctions, cyber attacks, etc. — against countries who haven’t attacked us or who are located in areas of little strategic interest.

For now, the Republican Party still appears to be controlled by interventionists.
