Ron Paul and Daniel McAdams Exposed the US’s Insane Foreign Policy that Has Pushed Russia and China Together

DC’s foreign policy insanity knows no bounds.

Universalist foreign policy notions have guided foreign policy leaders’ outlook for the past few decades. In turn, this flawed foreign policy mindset has convinced them that they could push regime change abroad and force Western liberal ideas on nations with no traditions of ever embracing such concepts.

In addition to the messianic urge to spread democratic values, many of these people are committed to maintaining American supremacy at all costs. This unhinged foreign policy outlook has led the United States to push Russia and China together.

For example, the US has pursued NATO expansion into Russia’s traditional geopolitical backyard since the end of the Cold War, which has resulted in a deterioration of relations between the two nations. In the worst case scenarios, attempts to continue expanding NATO have witnessed Russia intervene decisively in Georgia and Ukraine, the latter being the most lurid and present of Russia’s interventions in response to Western encroachments in its historic sphere of influence.

In the Chinese case, the US has “pivoted” to Asia and is beginning to draw up an ad hoc containment policy of sorts against China. The US has been able to cobble together a coalition of countries in the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue — made up of Australia, India, and Japan — to counter China. The US has also built AUKUS — a trilateral security pact made up of Australia, the United Kingdom, and the US — to address the perceived Chinese security challenge.

However, American efforts to contain China might be on the ropes with the US’s latest boneheaded foreign policy moves.

In a recent episode of the Ron Paul Liberty Report posted on March 22, 2022, Daniel McAdams and Ron Paul highlighted some of the most unhinged aspects of the US’s foreign policy maneuvers in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

One of the points they raised in their conversation was how US foreign policy officials have been trying to bully China for not condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

McAdams observed that in the US’s attempts to bring China to heel, it is forcing “China further into the arms of Russia.” One of the most brazen moves that US officials have taken to antagonize China was a recent decision to “unexpectedly” sanction Chinese officials for “repressive acts” allegedly committed against ethnic and religious groups in China.

The timing of such sanctions is curious because of China’s abstention in the United Nations vote to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Even worse, the US has threatened sanctions on India for its refusal to condemn Russia at the UN. Curiously, India also has strong defense ties with Russia.

McAdams likened the US’s sanction happy foreign policy to “a drunk at a bar who all of a sudden gets up and wants to fight everybody at once.”

Ironically, India is viewed as a potential coalition partner for the US in future plans to balance against China in the Indo-Pacific. Hilariously, the US may actually push India into a geopolitical axis with Russia and China, thereby guaranteeing that the West will be completely pushed out of the Indo-Pacific.

US foreign policy simply has no rhyme or reason to it these days. All told, the US will need to go back to a foreign policy of restraint. To be sure it will need to recalibrate its trade relations with China, in addition to limiting immigration from there and closing down subversive institutions like Confucius Institutes that have popped up across the US.

That said, the US needs to pursue a wholesale retrenchment in its foreign policy and focus more on its traditional sphere of influence in the Western Hemisphere by bolstering the Monroe Doctrine and building stronger economic ties with Latin American and Caribbean nations.

Playing the role of global cop is no longer viable.
