Several Republican Governors are Calling for Refugees to be Resettled

Republicans are selling out yet again. Since the Biden administration commenced its chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, many virtue signalers in the ruling class are calling for hundreds of thousands of Afghans to be resettled in the US.

The Republican Party has not been exempt from this. John Binder of Breitbart News reported that 10 Republicans have called on the Biden administration to resettle Afghans in their respective states. This comes at a time when the State Department has plans of importing thousands of migrants to the US to be permanently resettled.

Initially, the Biden administration promised to bring in at least 22,000 Afghans via the refugee resettlement program. On August 19, 2021, however, refugee contractors revealed that the number of Afghans looking into resettlement options in the US ranges from 100,000 to 300,000.

Binder went into detail about some of the Afghans who are being resettled into the US:

Most of the Afghans include those who are being fast-tracked for Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs) — reserved for interpreters and their family members who worked with the American military during the Afghanistan war.

The Breitbart writer also highlighted an additional visa program that the State Department created for Afghans:

In addition, Biden’s State Department has created the P-2 visa for Afghans who are not eligible for SIVs but who say they worked for military contractors and organizations in coordination with the American military.

10 GOP governors have hopped on the refugee re-settlement craze without even bothering to take issue with the vetting standards or the exact number of migrants potentially being re-settled. These governors are:

  • South Carolina’s Henry McMaster
  • Maryland’s Larry Hogan
  • Massachusetts’ Charlie Baker
  • Utah’s Spencer Cox
  • Georgia’s Brian Kemp
  • Arkansas’ Asa Hutchinson
  • Arizona’s Doug Ducey
  • Iowa’s Kim Reynolds
  • Oklahoma’s Kevin Stitts
  • Vermont’s Phil Scott

“We are eager to continue that practice and assist with the resettlement of individuals and families fleeing Afghanistan, especially those who valiantly helped U.S. troops, diplomats, journalists, and other civilians over the past 20 years,” Cox expressed in a statement.

In another statement, Kemp hinted at being receptive to resettling Afghan refugees in Georgia. Kemp remarked, “it is vitally important to keep those who partnered with American armed forces over the last 20 years safe from harm.”

Larry Hogan released another statement declaring that more refugee resettlement in Maryland “is the least we can do” to assist Afghans. Charlie Baker published another statement declaring that Massachusetts is seeking to resettle refugees “seeking safety and peace in America.”

On August 19, Asa Hutchinson declared during a press conference that Arkansas “would welcome” Afghans “as part of the other states that are welcoming those that need a place of refuge.”

Kim Reynolds was accompanied by Iowa Senator Joni Ernst when she informed local media that she would “work with [the Iowa Bureau of Refugee Services] to … make sure we have a process in place and we have families and homes for them to go.”

“We want to be a partner. We want them here, and we want them to know that. And we’ll work through those processes whatever they may be, but definitely we can handle that,” Reynolds remarked.

Doug Ducey, was accompanied by Arizona’s House Speaker Rusty Bowers, when he cited Bible verses in a statement that called on Biden to resettle Afghans in Arizona:

In Ephesians 2:19 the Bible states, “So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God.”

When they have been cleared for entry into the United States for their service to our military, we are ready to welcome them and help them settle into their new home in the land of the free.

Binder highlighted how these ten Republican governors joined “Democrat Govs. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), Jared Polis (D-CO), J.B. Pritzker (D-IL), and Ralph Northam (D-VA), among others” in calling for the Biden administration to resettle Afghans in their respective states.

There’s clearly a bipartisan consensus to flood the country with foreign migrants against the will of the American people. Binder even noted below that states and localities have largely been stripped of their ability to reject refugee resettlement:

As Breitbart News reported, states, counties, and local communities no longer have veto power over refugee resettlement. Former President Trump had signed an executive order in 2019 granting states and local jurisdictions the power to refuse refugees, but Biden, in February, rescinded the order.

Liberty conservatives must stand for immigration patriotism. Refugee resettlement must be opposed whole-heartedly. The US government has already destabilized Afghanistan as it is, and it should not bring said instability to America’s heartland. If any resettlement is to be done, the US should be working with its so-called allies and strategic partners in the Middle East and Greater Middle East (Jordan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and United Arab Emirates) to resettle migrants in countries that are more culturally compatible with Afghans.
