Thomas Massie Comes to Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Defense

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is facing heat from the political establishment now that she’s confronting a lawsuit from several people in her congressional district. The aim of the lawsuit is to disqualify her from holding office.

In March, Free Speech for People, an election and campaign finance reform organization, filed a lawsuit on behalf of a group of Georgia voters, making the allegation that Greene incited the January 6, 2021 storming of the United States Capitol. The accusers are citing her comments and tweets as evidence that she participated in an insurrection.

Greene testified under oath for roughly four hours as a witness during a court testimony in Atlanta on April 22, as the challengers argued that she should not be able to run for re-election.

Greene’s challengers alluded to the 14th Amendment’s ban on individuals “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” from running for office at the federal or state level. Per the lawsuit, Greene is ineligible to run for re-election due to how she allegedly engaged in the obstruction of the transfer of presidential power, for simply using rhetoric that challenged the election results.

Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie came to Greene’s defense. In a tweet he published on April 22, Massie stated,  “I support @RepMTG

Regardless of whether you do or not, regardless of your political persuasion, I hope you can see the danger of the process that’s being used to try and deny the people of Georgia their right to choose their own Representative.”

Greene’s attorney, James Bopp, described April 22’s events as a “political show trial.”

“We come into a hearing with all these cameras and all these live-streaming — why are they interested in this? Because Representative Greene’s on the ballot? No. This is a political agenda, “ Bopp added.

Bopp has filed an appeal in federal court to put a stop to this challenge that would keep Greene off the ballot.

This current case should alarm any person who believes in democratic principles. The political establishment wants to clamp down on anyone who dares to challenge the DC swamp’s corrupt ways.

Massie is correct in defending Greene from this attack. If Greene is barred from running for re-election, this could set a nasty precedent that the ruling class will use to prevent anti-establishment incumbents from running for re-election in the future.

This is one fight that liberty conservatives should not stray away from. Liberty conservatives and other dissident factions within the GOP could be greatly impacted by this case.
